Giving the Gift of Patience

By now officially no items in my shops can get there by Christmas.  But that's ok...if you see something you know someone would just love, you can order it and then print out one of these:

Patience...something everyone can use a little of, right?  (Warning, only give this to friends and family with a sense of humor).

I saw something similar over at Obey the Purebreed a while back and knew I just had to make one for my customers.  I have some other generic versions you can customize, here  (if there's say, something not from Scribbleprints that you need this for.)

Literary Junkies

Pink Heels Pink Truck
Literarey Junkies is a fun meme asking questions about your reading.  You can read my answers below, or share yours at Pink Heels, Pink Truck.

1. What are you reading? Tell us about it!
Nothing for fun right now I'm afraid.  I've decided to homeschool my youngest so reading lots of curriculum reviews and other homeschooling stuff.  Also, Squidoo, a site I write through, just got acquired by Hubpages and is going away, so I'm reading up on Hubpages to see if I want to move my Squidoo articles  there, or somewhere else.  So swamped.

2. Do you read one book at a time, or read multiple books at once?
I used to read just one fiction book at a time, along with a few non-fiction (I go more slowly through those--and some are things like devotionals which are meant to be read a little at a time.  But now it seems I pick up a book, put it down, and can't recall where I left I start another.

3. What is the first book that made you fall in love with reading?
The first chapter book I read cover to cover on my own was The Secret Garden.  My mom  had already read The Little Princess (by the same author) and I wanted to start this one because I loved that one so much, but she was busy.  So, on her suggestion, I read and it started me reading many more...but my mom had already ignited my love of reading books too me, from short, rich books like the Serendipity books, to her own Christian romance novels by Janet Oke that she read to me, in part, I think, so I would stop bugging her and be quiet while she read.

4. Do you prefer a physical copy of the book or an electronic version?
Physical.  I like to read when my kids are on the computer.

5. What are three books on your To Be Read list?
The second and third Hunger Games books, which are somewhere in my house, but I DO NOT KNOW WHERE.  Dang messy house.  Another is Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.

New Shop With Customized Girl!

This is just a little announcement that I've opened up a new shop through Customized girl. It just has a few items for now, but there will be more soon

Plus you can take any product in my shop use the Customize This button to swop out that item for any other item customized girl offers  (for instance, if my design is on a shirt and you want it on another style shirt,or even a teddy bear, you can do that!).  You can also change colors or add text!

One of my favorite items are their flowy shirts (like the one shown at right).

They have a lot of other fun items...lots of cute shirts, stuffed animals, and bags.

I'm still deciding what to add next. Alas, some of my designs are stuck on a drobo and I can't get at them to add them now, but hopefully I'll have some more up soon.

Use coupon code CG14R to get $5 off orders of $16 or more through 9/30/14

Art With Kids: Coloring Pages

I subscribe to Dover's Free Sampler, which often has fun printables like coloring pages, paper dolls, etc.  I especially love the artwork coloring pages they sometimes share.  These coloring pages based on famous works of art and artistic styles would be great to help expose kids to artists from various periods.  I like the idea of letting kids color the picture first without seeing the original, then see how theirs differs, and what difference that makes in how the artwork looks.

Dover doesn't keep these up indefinitely, so you may want to download these for later use.  (A few of these are not from Dover, but most are)

Literary Junkies

Pink Heels Pink Truck Found a new Meme to participate in:  Literary Junkies.  Don't read as much as I used to, but still love to talk about it.  Ha!

1. What are you reading right now? Tell us about it!
Ug...nothing but bedtime stories to my kids.  I have the 2nd and 3rd book in the Hunger Games Trillogy sitting in a box, but this is a really busy time of year for me, so I'm leaving them there because I can't afford to loose two days (I know I will chain read them and not be able to stop).  After the first one not only was I gone while I was reading it, but I was emotionally distracted afterwards.  So much stuff to think about.

2. Divergent, Hunger Games, or Twilight. Which do you prefer and why?
Only read Hunger Games.  Intrigued by Divergent, and not interested in Twilight.

3. TV Series Based on Books: they start out very close to the book to draw in the fans but then will start to separate themselves by changing things and adding characters. What are you thoughts on this?
The only show I ever watched based on a book I had actually read was the Laura Ingalls Wilder series.  I thought it stayed faithful to the idea.  I would love to see the Hobbit turned into a cartoon series, just because that book needs more than a single movie to finish it.  Oh wait, maybe 3 movies will do it.  *Grin*  But honestly, I can't take my kids to see that.  Way to graphically violent.  So I still want a cartoon series.

4. You’ve just been recruited to help a movie studio bring your favorite book to the big screen. What’s the movie and who are you choosing to play the main characters?

There are so many books I'd like to turn into movies. I would love to see The Ordinary Princess as an animated film, with animation based off the original  artwork by M.M. Kaye.  It's just beautiful.

It would be really cool if it were animated like a mesh of the styles of Snow White and The Secret of Kells (a movie that was just artistically exquisite, though I hated that they managed to take a movie about a bunch of monks copying and illustrating the Bible and make it all about Celtic mythology and not a at all about any of the contents of that book).

5. Going back to the above question, do you keep it word for word the same or do you use this chance to change little things you thought would make the book better?
I would stay faithful.  I find that movies that are faithful to the books are generally better...though they sometimes need to trim out scenes for time sake, which is understandable.

6. After you finish a physical copy of a book do you keep it for a reread, put it on a shelf to collect dust, donate it to Goodwill, or do you just not purchase physical copies of books?
Depends on how much I like it.  If I like it I usually keep it.  If I don't care for it I donate it.

NEW: Pocket Mirrors!

Zazzle has added several new items, which I'll be sharing soon. One of them is compact mirrors.  I already offered these at my CafePress shops, but these come in a few new shapes (heart and over, in addition to circle and square), and can be customized.

Art With Kids: Coloring Pages

Dover publishing has several wonderful coloring pages from famous artworks in it's recent samplers.  These are a great way to explore art with your kids.  Because they include the original works, you can let your kids compare how they colored them to how the original work was colored.

(Note that the images in the Dover Samplers are not often available for long, so save these to your computer if you plan to use them later)

My Newest Design: Heart of Flowers

Check out my newsest watercolor design...I call it Heart of Flowers.

To make this I cut a heart out of construction paper to be my guildline...then just had fun filling it in with daisies (mostly daisies).  This was loosly using the technique I shared here earlier in my "Where Art Meets Math" post  (it doesn't look very mathmatical, does it...I did say loosely).

I'm still adding this to products in my Zazzle shop (debating on whether to add it to CafePress...I'm been sort of moving away from there as they've become less shopkeeper friendly)--I'll probably be adding things gradually over the next few weeks so if there's anything you want it on especially, let me know, and I'll make that a top priority.  They have some new products this one (definately a fave):

These aren't new, but I also love how it looks on the tea-pot and cup.
