2 Q THURS/ Aloha Friday

Every now and then I participate in Aloha Friday, where I ask a simple question for you to answer (nothing that requires a lengthy response) and Two Question Thursday (same idea...only TWO questions).  If you'ld like to, comment with an answer to the questions below:

My dad has Parkinsons, and the shaking has gotten so bad that he can't even read anymore...even with a book-stand it's just too hard.  Since he's always been an avid reader, I wanted to get him some books on tape.  Maybe you all can help me with suggestions:
  • Do you know of any good books in the following genres:  westerns, historical fiction, mystery, suspense, documentary?
  • What is your favorite way to enjoy a good book:  regular paper book, audio book, kindle or other type of reader?
Please leave your answer in a comment below.  Thanks!

And here's a follow-up on last weeks question.  I asked whether people got the joke on my "I Drank the Water" maternity shirt (pictured left).  Thanks everyone who answered!  For those who were baffled, I promised I'd share what it means.  At several places I've lived or worked, when several women got pregnant they would say "There must be something in the water"  or   "Don't drink the water!"  (as if drinking the water might get you pregnant).  So,  I made this shirt with those comments in mind.

If you have a blog and would like to post your own questions you can leave your link on the linkys at 2 Questions Thursday and An Island Life.

  1. Unfortunately, I don't have any good books to recommend. Whenever I do find time to read, I like reading both types of books types - bound and e-book. Most of my reading is confined to magazine articles or children's books for the last 22-years. lol.

  3. Computer took half the word out. Here we go again.

Haha!Regarding your last week's question. I have heard that before yes...I didn't think of it though.:-(
For mystery, suspense, documentary - I have to say The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Before I get into too much details of the background, I have to say it is a bit violent. However, I appreciate the reason why it was created and how it became published. All that in itself is a great story. It is in process of becoming a movie in the US.

I would love to download some good Ebooks. I think this is the only way I can read a book with a family and blogging. There are enough dead time during errands and appointments and I bet I can pull it off! Thanks for this question. I just figured out finally how to read a book!

    Thanks for joining this week.

  5. Louis L'amour writes very good westerns. I have always preferred the actual book however if I had a Kindle or the like I might like that better. ;D
    Happy Aloha Friday!

  6. Darling idea for a t-shirt! Had me laughing.

I don't have a kindle or anything like that so can't answer that one although I know Amazon always has quite a few freebies to try out.

My favorite historical fiction is Pride & Prejudice but not certain that would appeal to your dad. I love sci-fi & there's a really good author named Mike Shepard who writes military sci-fi. He wrote his first series for his daughter or granddaughter but they are really good. My dad loves them too.

  7. Sorry about your dad.

I love Jodi Picoult, but that's probably not up his alley... so I'm not sure, sorry.

I love good old-fashioned books. We've done kids' books on CD for long drives, and that was okay, so I might try it again for the next trip. :)

  8. I love many cozy mysteries like the Joanne Fluke series and the Cupacake mysteries. I have had a Kindle since 2009 and I prefer to read on that and I love it! Not sure if a man would enjoy and cozy mysteries though.

  9. I like horror and scifi so I'm not much help in those catagories but my hubby like anything by Clive Cussler (sp). You might go to a site like Amazon.com and browse.

I downloaded the Kindle reader to my laptop and right now that's my favorite way to read. I will probably get a Kindle before long.

  10. I bet your dad would absolutely appreciate books on tape - I don't have any suggestions off the top of my head, though.

I like reading - a lot - and tend to switch off between bound or on my Kindle. :)

  11. Has he read the Dan Brown books? I know my husband and I both loved Angels & Demons, Davinci Code, etc. And he has a new book out right now which is on the Kindle.

  12. That is such a sweet idea for your father.
Maybe he'll also like audio books?

I think men would love anything Tom Clancy. It's intriguing and have action etc.

    Good luck.

  13. I love paperback books! I don't listen as well as I read. I would recommend James Patterson books. I know they come in audio format!

  14. Sorry to know about your dad. Must be frustrating for him, but the audio book is a great idea. I have no recommendations, but whatever you choose for him, I'm sure he'll appreciate!

  15. Can't really help you in those genres, sorry. These days I prefer audio books. I like being able to put them onto my MP3 player so I can exercise, knit, or multi-task as I read.
