One World One Heart Giveaway (CLOSED)

Hello everyone, welcome to my post for One World One Heart, a fun event where bloggers around the world post giveaways and share a little bit about themselves.  You can see all the participants here or click here to find out how to join in if you blog.

If you happen to be visiting from Asia, Happy New Year!
Now a little bit about me:

I'm a Christian.  I start with this because knowing Jesus is more important than anything else that has happened in my life.  I won't go into my whole story here, but if you'ld like to know about it you can read more here

I'm a Mom.  I have three little boys, who inspire me in many ways, and make my life both more challenging, and more full.

I'm an Artist.  And, as you can tell, that's what this blog is mainly about.

I'm a "Texifornian".    Yes, I made up that word...though I'm not the only one who ever thought of it.  I am originally from California, USA, but live in Texas now.  If you'ld like a postcard from Texas, I'm giving that away for OWOH on my other blog, Texifornia.  Oh, and one more interesting thing I thought I'd add...when I was a kid I lived on a boat!  Yep, until I was 10, then we moved to the California mountains.  If you happen to have seen a 50 foot yellow tug boat named SNAFU (it used to be a Navy boat...my parents didn't name it that) chugging around let me know.  I'd love to find out what happened to it.  :-)

WHAT I'M GIVING AWAY

First, if you like my heart up at the top, I have  free coloring pages
with the same design that everyone is welcome to print.

And, I will also be giving away the following to one person:

2 Q THURS/ Aloha Friday

Every now and then I participate in Aloha Friday, where I ask a simple question for you to answer (nothing that requires a lengthy response) and Two Question Thursday (same idea...only TWO questions).  If you'ld like to, comment with an answer to the questions below:

My dad has Parkinsons, and the shaking has gotten so bad that he can't even read anymore...even with a book-stand it's just too hard.  Since he's always been an avid reader, I wanted to get him some books on tape.  Maybe you all can help me with suggestions:
  • Do you know of any good books in the following genres:  westerns, historical fiction, mystery, suspense, documentary?
  • What is your favorite way to enjoy a good book:  regular paper book, audio book, kindle or other type of reader?
Please leave your answer in a comment below.  Thanks!

And here's a follow-up on last weeks question.  I asked whether people got the joke on my "I Drank the Water" maternity shirt (pictured left).  Thanks everyone who answered!  For those who were baffled, I promised I'd share what it means.  At several places I've lived or worked, when several women got pregnant they would say "There must be something in the water"  or   "Don't drink the water!"  (as if drinking the water might get you pregnant).  So,  I made this shirt with those comments in mind.

If you have a blog and would like to post your own questions you can leave your link on the linkys at 2 Questions Thursday and An Island Life.

I Was Featured!

My post about my kids artsy science experiment  was featured on this week's Tot Tuesday at My Delicious Ambiguity! How cool!

Its a fun experiment that makes colors move in a bowl of milk when dish soap is added.

Here was the artsy results:

Thank You!

Thank you to whoever forwarded my Zazzle site!

How did I know? Well, I was checking my January stats and it was all pretty much a straight line, with about 1 to 10 people visiting each day, except for one odd spike in the middle. On January 9th, when I wasn't even here and hadn't done ANYTHING to promote Scribbleprints, it suddenly spikes to over 100. I look at my stats and most of those were either direct hits or hits coming from mail servers, so I'm guessing someone forwarded my site! How cool!

When Art Meets Science

I just love when art meets science. Last month we got to introduce our kids to one of my favorite artsy science experiments.

It's fun and fairly simple. You will need:
  • A shallow pan or bowl
  • Milk
  • Food coloring
  • Dish soap
Fill the pan with milk. Drop several drops of different colored food coloring in different places in the milk. Then, squirt a small drop of dish soap in the middle of the dish soap. The colors will start to swirl as the dish soap reacts to the protein in the milk.  Like this...

Isn't that cool!  Of course, if you want to keep this "artwork" to hang on your wall then you'll have to take some pictures like we did.  I love how this also caught the reflection of the lights above our table.  Pretty cool!

LESSON IN COLORS
Use red, yellow, and blue food coloring to help teach younger children what colors are created when those colors mix.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT
I found this description of what causes the colors to swirl on About.com:
"The detergent lowers the surface tension of the liquid so that the food coloring is free to flow throughout the milk. The detergent reacts with the protein in the milk, altering the shape of those molecules and setting them in motion."
You can read the whole description at the bottom of About.com's Magic Colored Milk Science Project Page.

This post is participating in the following memes, where you can find
a lot of other creative ideas for kids!

Aloha Friday/2 Q Thurs - Do You Get It?

Every now and then I participate in Aloha Friday, where I ask a simple question for you to answer (nothing that requires a lengthy response) and Two Question Thursday (same idea...only TWO questions).  If you'ld like to, comment with an answer to the questions below:

The questions this week will be about this maternity shirt I designed:

This is the design of mine that has most often baffled friends and family. Time and again I've heard "I don't get it. What's that supposed to mean?" And yet, maternity shirts with this design sell better than any other product I sell through CafePress, so I know that there's a lot of people out there get this joke.

So, my question to you is...
  • Do you get it?
  • What do you think it means? (No cheating and reading other's answers!)
I'll try to post the meaning I was meaning next Aloha Friday, for anyone who's baffled.

If you have a blog and would like to post your own questions you can leave your link on the linkys at 2 Questions Thursday and An Island Life.

Happy New Year!!

Hope you all have a great new year!
My New Year's Resolution - 1024 X 768 mousepad

This design came from a joke my husband made several years ago on new years day.  I have the blessing to be a married to a man who still makes me laugh.

"Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that's a real treat."
